For many of us, finding a new outfit to wear to all of our events can be quite a time consuming and overwhelming feat, and not to mention draining on our bank accounts. We love to have a new outfit every weekend, but not the price tag that comes along with it! Style Savvy Hire offers the perfect solution for this dilemma by providing a range of beautiful high fashion outfits from a range of designers for hire at a fraction of the price.
Owner, Gracie Hunt, has created a personal, comfortable and friendly experience for all of her clients who visit her Somerton Park based studio. She is also one of the only established hiring businesses to cater for all sizes.
I did a little Q&A with Gracie to get to know a little more about her and her business.
Let’s get to know Gracie:Tea or coffee? Tricky one… tea for relaxing and coffee when I’m tired or studying
Sweet or savoury? Savoury
Favourite food? Pizza or Mexican
Favourite café in Adelaide? I am a coeliac so I am always on the lookout for a café with good gluten free options. My two go-to places are Agatha’s in Port Noarlunga and Froth and Fodder in Plympton
Favourite season? Spring
Heels or flats? Flats
What’s your favourite fashion label and why?Working with fashion makes it hard because I love so many labels. I love Camilla with love as Camilla Franks is forever producing the funkiest patterns and perfect cuts to suit all shapes and sizes. Another one of my favourite labels would have to be C/MEO Collective. Without a doubt, there is always something I want to purchase each release.
Tell us a little about your business, how did Style Savvy Hire all come about?I have been running Style Savvy Hire (SSH) for two years now. The idea came about when I was in Year 11, as I would often hire from a hiring business but they seemed to only stock small sizes. I mentioned starting a hiring business to my Mum in Year 12 and she told me to think about it once I had six months of university up my sleeve. I completed my first six months of university without giving the idea much thought. However, one day I went out and bought about ten Australian fashion labels pieces in all different sizes and started an Instagram page. SSH slowly grew and my range of garments expanded and that brings us to where I am now working from the SSH studio. SSH is now close to reaching 10k followers on Instagram and we are looking forward to celebrating this milestone.
What have been some of the challenges you have overcome being a small business owner/ girl boss?Being your own boss and being a small business owner does have its benefits but can certainly has its negatives. Something that I have learnt in my two years is that it is so important to balance growing the business and having time off from work. For example, turning my phone off on Sundays and after 9pm during the week. It is important to keep the momentum up to interest future clients and keep your stock up to date. Working with Cayleigh has been something that has really helped me with the social media side and most of my social media platforms are Cayleigh’s pictures. Being a girl boss is so much fun and when I do come into contact with girls that want to start their own business, bog etc. I support and encourage them 110%.
What brands do you stock at Style Savvy Hire?We stock all Australian Fashion Labels including C/MEO Collective, Finders Keepers, Keepsake and The Fifth as well as higher end labels such as Bec and Bridge, Camilla with love, Zimmerman, Alice McCall and Discount Universe. We have recently started stocking two international designer pieces from Realisation Par.
What’s your favourite piece at Style Savvy Hire?My current favourite piece at SSH is our Zimmerman ‘havoc’ playsuit. It is a super fun piece that is perfect for the colder weather being long-sleeved and suits all shapes and sizes.
Where do you see Style Savvy Hire in the next few years?Style Savvy Hire is still in the growth stage so we are continuing to try new labels and deliver a comfortable, friendly and professional space for girls that are sizes 6-16. Our Australia wide postage system is steadily increasing so that we can cater for interstate clients. We currently work alongside Jemma Millar Make-up Artist, who works from the studio on Fridays and Saturdays. We look forward to working with and supporting other local Adelaide businesses on our journey.
I have been lucky enough to collaborate with Gracie and photograph many of her beautiful pieces. She is a genuine, down to earth and vibrant girl, who is passionate about what she does, so I recommend you visit her in the studio for your next night out.
