MY EXPERIENCE AT MEDIPEDI NAIL SPA

I recently had the opportunity to visit MediPedi Nail Spa on King William Road for a couple of hours of pampering. I was treated to their signature manicure and pedicure with included an Arbré hand and foot soak and scrub (which smelt delicious), excess cuticle removal, nail buff and shape, Arbré lotion massage, and then a choice of polish or gels. Now, I’ll admit that I am not usually the type of girl who bothers getting her nails done because I think I’m pretty good at painting my nails myself so didn’t really see value in spending the time and money in a salon. I had also had a bad experience once with gel nails that were done terribly and left my nails in a really bad condition. But I can honestly say that I loved my experience at MediPedi and now understand the value of getting my nails done. Not only was the experience luxurious and relaxing but my nails, hands and feet looked and felt so much healthy after the treatment.

I got gel on my toes, but I was still a bit hesitant to get it on my fingers since my nails were still recovering from my bad experience. Instead, the lovely Lisa who was doing my treatment, introduced me to the amazing Dazzle Dry nail polish. This nail polish is so glossy and beautiful that it looks like gel but is much better for your nails. It dries rock hard in 5 minutes without any UV lamp and lasts up to 2 weeks chip free – and I can vouch for this because I put it to the test! And the best part is, that it removes like normal nail polish so there’s no damaging your nails, and is non toxic and vegan. So it’s safe to say, I’m a converted Dazzle dry girl!

I highly recommend visiting MediPedi and giving yourself a much deserved pamper session, to see for yourself what I am on about. You can check out their services and even make a booking through their website, MediPedi Nail Spa.

I did a little Q&A with owner of the salon, Georgie, to get to know more about her journey and MediPedi.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your journey as an entrepreneur and salon owner, how did you discover this passion and get to where you are now?

I am an Adelaide girl, who after University moved to Sydney. It was here that I bought my first Podiatry Practice, with Tom my business partner at 22. It was a steep learning curve for both us and over 11 years we owned and operated 3 practices. Small business became a huge passion, I love the everyday hands on requirement, I love being across the board on every aspect of the business, and I love seeing the results of what you work on. The best part of being a Podiatrist is that I am able to combine small business with my first passion of helping people with their feet and providing the very best service and experience.

It was during these years in Sydney we saw the need for and became passionate about a dedicated hand and nail salon with a Podiatrist onsite that uses quality healthy products. Our main practice was in Bondi Junction where there was an explosion of nail bars on every corner. We saw a lot of infections and poor results coming into our practice and our clients overwhelmingly wanted to have their manicures and pedicures at the same time as their podiatry general treatment.

I moved back to Adelaide 2 years ago with my husband and 2 young boys, and it was with this move that Tom and I decided after writing our first business plan for MediPedi Nail Spa 10 years ago – it was now or never and we needed to open the doors.

Taking the leap and deciding to go ahead – was the best decision! Opening our first location in Unley just over a year ago we are now looking for a second location.

MediPedi has a team of in house podiatrists, which really sets the salon apart from others, what is the significance of this?

Having Podiatrists onsite allows us to provide our specialty service “The Medical Pedicure”. Using a blade the podiatrist is able to professionally remove the dry cracked skin around the heels and balls of your feet, attend to any toenail problems, provide a treatment plan where required and give you great foot care advice. From here you move through the Nail Therapist who is able to massage, shape, buff and finish by polishing your toes to perfection. The ultimate Pedicure. Best of all you can claim the Podiatry portion on your health fund.

Having a Podiatrist onsite has also enabled us to ensure the Podiatry level of sterilisation and infection control is adhered to through out the spa. Everything is autoclaved with a bench top steam steriliser or single use.

What is your favourite Medi Pedi treatment?

I love our express manicures and pedicures. Having a busy work schedule, and family life the express services are just perfect for me. Best of all I can book online – to secure the time that suits me!

What are your favourite nail colours at the moment?

For my hands I can’t go past nude – in our Gel Range – FABY Sensual Touch, or in Dazzle Dry Sentimental. For years I have worn the same coral shades on my toes, but this summer I have branched out – and Pink Plume in Dazzle Dry is my new favourite.

What are your top tips for beautiful nails and feet?

Maintenance, Maintenance, Maintenance!

Mositurise your feet and hands every day, use cuticle oil – a good quality cuticle oil does make a difference –Keep onto top of pedis & manis – and have regular Podiatry appointments, every 3 – 4 months – Podiatry is for all ages.
